OpenDNS engaged Min | Day to design their office expansion from 14,000sf to 28,000sf. The charge was to build upon their existing aesthetic and company identity while visually and functionally connecting new and existing workspaces. The design mixes raw and cooked qualities of architectural finish.
To provide a variety of modifiable work environments, Min | Day designed custom furnishings from built-in benches to bespoke flip-top picnic tables on casters that can be easily moved and reconfigured to host events and provide flexibility for town-hall style meetings. A 16-foot steel reception desk accommodates 3 people, signifies the link between open and controlled-access areas, and integrates an ipad for guest sign-in and record keeping. A mobile meeting unit deemed the Rhombus provides an intimate meeting space anywhere in the open office and bridges a space between furniture and architecture. By configuring multiple Rhombi, larger teams can create forts or camps for meetings. By integrating several custom elements, fabricated off-site, Min | Day enacted a strategy for limiting the disruptions of site construction while responding to the needs of an expanding and flexible work environment.
