Pedestrian bridge over Kronverksky channel is in the heart of the historic center of St. Petersburg, and connects into one main part of the fortress and Kronwerk with disposed therein Artillery Museum. The future bridge as it is on the imaginary axis connecting the Artillery Museum and Golovkin bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress, and this axis is the axis of symmetry for the Artillery Museum and the bridge.
Bridge, on the plan is "X" -shaped, that is approaches to the bridge from the Artillery Museum carried out by the two wings of the museum, and from the fortress are tangential to the walls of the bastion, which is suitable to the bridge wedge. This form also allows you to keep the existing granite pier from the museum’s side.
On the style and visual imagery of the bridge had an impact, as the place of its location and the entire 300-year history of the city that can not be ignored, peering into the leaden waters of the Neva River, which can also be looked by the great Peter I, sailing on his boat, trying to see through the hazy outlines the future of his invincible fleet. Therefore, the central support element of the bridge is solved in the form of the hull, which with the help of frames based converging to the center of the web of the bridge, and it is like a giant ship hovers over the waters of the Neva. In my view, such an object, and especially in a place like this should not be limited utilitarian function, but should be a kind of "significant" element, not only architectural object, but rather a sculpture, most associated with the geography of the place and the entire previous history. Also, the similarity with the ship increases by triangular sails, stretched to the extreme of the cable in the sails used the symbolism of the flag and emblem of the city. The red flag of the city and of the sails suggest yet another parallel, a parallel with the "Scarlet sails" of A. Green, which enhances the effect of lightness and sublimity. The web includes a bridge-like opening windows that are used both for illumination and observation windows. The main pillars of the bridge are solved in the form of fragments or waterfront piers with rings for mooring boats. The project was an attempt to bridge modern techniques to achieve visual harmony with the historic surroundings and the attempt to combine into one great city's past and present.
