Impact statement: Using Space As A Tool To Connect Teams.
A central theme of connectedness permeates the campus.
The Toyota North American Headquarters project is a 2.1 million square-foot campus including multiple office buildings, data centers and high-bay specialty buildings. The campus will house more than 7,000 of Toyota’s team members. The combination of these team members and varied space types make up the sales, marketing and distribution dedicated to Toyota’s North America market. Within the seven office buildings, Toyota is bringing together employees from across the country. The concurrent reorganization of the company and migration to an “One Toyota” approach created an elaborate programming effort. The campus features portion of the site was designed to house centralized amenities with close connection to the office buildings.
The campus features include amenities such as an 850-person dining commons, healthcare clinic, 22,000-square-foot fitness center, 36,000-square-foot multi-purpose knowledge center, 500-person large gathering space, pharmacy, museum, parking structures to house 10,000 cars and conference center.
To kick off the project, Corgan led Toyota through a large visioning session. Since many of the employees will be relocating, we gathered team members in one location with the goal of bringing their individual thoughts together into a common language, with mutual understanding and a united vision for moving forward. The group had a productive and inspiring discussion about how this new facility can help them support each other in new ways that their separation across the country has not previously allowed. The principles that were established from the visioning session for the project were: connected, balanced, variety of places, aspirational, innovative and customer-driven.
