A privately owned public space in Midtown Manhattan, the project aimed to enliven the park by providing seating, food kiosks, lighting, plants, and public art. A large central platform with perimeter ramps creates the central cafe space. Trees grow through openings in the surface, and a landscape art installation distorts the wood. A venture between a hospitality group, the property owner, and the NYC Dept. of City Planning, the project underwent public approvals, including reviews by the NYC Planning Commission and the Community Board.
