This project combined two prewar Art Deco apartments located in a 5th Avenue landmark building into a totally modern apartment with aesthetically pleasing appeal. The emphasis was to have an open lifestyle concept, yet design a separate kitchen, dining, and living room, creating an overlapping juxtaposition. The challenge was combining two separate apartments into one and relocating the kitchen. The purpose of relocating the kitchen was to provide more optimal living space. Because of the relocation we had to work with the plumbing walls and uneven surfaces to create a cohesive design for the apartment.
Our goal was to accomplish an open entryway that was not too tight or uncomfortable. To accomplish this, we designed a display wall that partially blocks the kitchen, yet allows for a view of the apartment. This display wall partition lets you experience part of the open kitchen and the beautiful living space. The light oak, white and grey lacquer, and wood cladding created a very contemporary, sleek, and airy feel. Rift white cut oak flooring runs throughout the entire apartment. We selected modern furniture from B&B Italia, and included excellent photography, and art to complete the high end contemporary look. This truly makes it a one-of-a-kind, rare opportunity for an elegant New York life style.
