2 m² Nature is an installation designed by ONA to respond and interpret urban people’s inner desire for nature, which has been deepened by the tense stress, quick pace and high density of urban life, the forest of cement and steel wherever you look, and the long winding train of vehicles on the highways.
ONA believes that the charm of modern art lies in its ability to serve as a bridge between and resonate in the hearts of various people. Abstract yet informative, obscure yet suggestive, modern art produces limitless mental images derived from concrete objects, which provides a totally different aesthetic experience from figural art.
The design of 2 m² Nature is derived from natural light and shadow, but goes beyond the literal production of light and shadow. Wandering under trees with sunlight falling through leaves, people see the dancing light and shadow on the ground, which forms a type of natural contrast between transparency and opaqueness, pleasant and peaceful. 2 m² designed by ONA intends to highlight and enhance this moving contrast, and create a space providing a new type of experience. This manmade sharpening of the contract between light and shadow and intensifying of experience serves as a critical response to urban people’s desire for nature.
Digital means are used in the process of design to test and facilitate the realization of design objectives. These digital tools demonstrate exceptional accuracy and efficiency in optimizing the structural members and in the mutual transformation between design and building information. Making use of the latest and the most advanced design and building methods to realize the spacial experience motivated by man’s desire for nature, ONA independently criticizes the binary opposition between city and nature.
