On Canaday's Pathway

Firm
1994 Excellence in Masonry Design by AIA Toledo and Masonry Institute
Constructed for a family of four, this home is located along an old carriage pathway of what was once known as the Canaday Estate in the Village of Ottawa Hills. The original property was subdivided a number of years ago into smaller properties. The old estate house and grounds include WPA era stone garden walls, dams and bridges, and abundant wildlife. The featured house is sited on a hillside overlooking 20 acres of wooded flood plain along the Ottawa River. To fit the structure into the hillside and provide an entrance court, an angular plan was devised, which has provided interesting spaces with a variety of natural lighting conditions, and a diverse mix of views.
