IDENTITY
The appearance of the airport in Omsk is based on the traditional wooden architecture of Siberia and the city's timber architecture, which was characteristic of the XIX-XX centuries. It is also based on the first wooden fortress - Omsk ostrog - which is an important part of the city's identity.
The airport building has therefore acquired the image of a wooden house — a place that people leave for long-distance travels and return to.
SHAPE
The building's characteristic shape with a pitched roof not only gives it a memorable appearance but also serves a functional purpose. The canopies provide "dry feet" paths for passengers boarding and disembarking from both the main and the bus entrance areas, while the attic on the third floor creates a unique atmosphere for the waiting rooms.
The elongated volume of the airport, 400 meters long, allows you to organize 6 ramps from the apron side, creating a narrow section that provides an overview of the runway during the passenger’s journey, from check-in to boarding.
A COMPLETE IMAGE
To create a complete image, all the secondary structures of the complex are also based on the image of a wooden house. The building of the railway station, hotel and main terminal are united by a canopy extending across the 2nd floor, which integrates harmoniously into the pitched facade of the main roof and provides convenient access for passengers under the canopy of the terminal.
MATERIALITY
The main materials of the structures, facades and interiors of the airport became glulam structures, wood and stained glass windows. The roof is partially assembled from a wooden and glass “lemekh". The glass sections of the roof provide natural light to all the areas of the airport.
LANDSCAPE
The main concept of landscaping is the creation of a unique landscape using various herbs that are native to the Siberian region.
