The main goals of our proposal are serving
the city of Athens, promoting it and to serving the interest of both the museum
curators and visitors. The given plot is placed strategically between several major
facilities and historical landmarks and it is surrounded by four hills (Lycabettus,
Ardittos, Acropolis and Philopappos) which would represent the starting point
of our proposal. The relation between the plot and each hill is a visual cone
that includes many landmarks in each direction.
The plot is divided into four facets based
on their distance from the four adjacent hills. Each facet contains the same
number of points as the other one giving an almost equal value regarding area
to each facet. Each facet is displaced in accordance to its distance from its
respected hill which occurs by pushing every point either upwards or downwards.
The resulting facets are then utilized in three major programs (public, administrative
and exhibition) the facets are then trimmed in order to interact with resulting
surface in order to provide natural lighting to the exhibition space. The other two remaining surfaces are
trimmed to establish an entrance to the covered Public Square and access to the
top of the surface from the public section which contains an auditorium and
temporary exhibition spaces and also contains but still separated
administrative zone. The exhibition
space consists of two ramps that establish continuity enforced by the
triangulated tessellations that are used to ease the movement, control it and
as the exhibition's main stands.
