Old Port Square transforms a four-acre site in Portland’s historic downtown into a vibrant district that integrates hospitality, retail, residential, and public space. Anchored by a 30-story residential and hotel tower inspired by Maine’s iconic lighthouses, the project introduces a striking yet contextual addition to Portland’s skyline, drawing from the maritime character of the neighborhood. At the top of the tower, a timber-and-glass lantern room offers public space with panoramic views of Casco Bay and the White Mountains.
At ground level a timber retail pavilion, conceived as a companion to the tower, marks a prominent gateway to the revitalized district, while a series of precise, adaptive reuse interventions breathe new life into existing buildings on the site.
Old Port Square exemplifies a bespoke and humanistic approach to urban revitalization – repairing fragmented city fabric, honoring local heritage, and creating a dynamic, pedestrian friendly hub for residents and visitors to Portland.
