Old City Public Library

Type
STATUS
Concept
The Old City Public Library is located on 52nd North 3rd Street in Old City Philadelphia. The Building is composed of two different structural elements, cast in place concrete and steel . The reinforced concrete structure houses the service areas and offices, while the steel structure houses the open spaces. Each floor is column free and supported by a structural truss system that surrounds the perimeter of the building. The main circulation is through the atrium, which bridges the two structures together. The first and fifth floor are public floors, while the second through fourth are private. The Exhibition Space and Bookstore are located on the first floor. The Exhibition Space looks out to the courtyard and can be used as a quiet meeting area or as an open public space through the retractable walls. The Café/Lounge is located on the fifth floor. This includes an outdoor seating area with views of the city that are great for lunch breaks, meetings, or to hangout.
