A traditional old barn of the Dolomites Has Been turned into a second home to just over 100 square meters for a family consisting of parents and three small children, plus their many guests.
The middle floor includes the entrance, a bathroom and living room with kitchenette. In the attic there are two bedrooms for parents and children, with two bathrooms. Downstairs, the boiler room, a laundry room, a bedroom for guests and a large room for the games of children.
All external walls in stone and tree trunks ("blockhouse building system") were preserved and brushed, while a new independent structure entirely made of wood has been built inside. The perimeter walls, perfectly isolated, have been covered with fir planks salvaged from old buildings, and the floors are covered in recycled oak planks. The roof has preserved the old structure made of larch logs. It has been insulated and covered with larch shingles. The heating is produced by a system with radiant floor panels, integrated by a pellet stove ducted so as to bring the hot air to all floors. The solar panels on the roof provide hot water for the sanitary water system.
