Office_Thick was one of the two runner-ups in the Urbantine Project 2007 competition. The event provided an opportunity for unrecognized architects and designers to showcase their ideas and philosophy in the UK during London Design Week at Tent London,Truman Brewery, Brick Lane. Organized jointly with Workspace Group, which provides progressive workspace accommodation for London’s creative industries, the competition brief asked to tackle the issue of rapid change in the 21st century workplace. We needed to respond through design, and propose a physical installation to be constructed at Tent London.The
contemporary office is the ideal place for the intervention of ThickSpace_Hair.
It is perhaps the most common social space in our daily experience. The
lightness, flexibility and simple assembly system of ThickSpace_Hair allow it to intervene from
above (as a superhero does) without the need to alter the existing office
landscape. However, change is likely to follow. As energy and inspiration
blossom, spontaneous acts of creativity wil begin to turn a typical office into
a personalized version of Office_Thick.
