The office building of Volkers BV is located at a small industrial area in Nijkerk (NL). Volkers BV is a company specialized in design and development of packaging. The existing building consists of a steel structure covered with a pale brick with blue aluminum windows and reflective glass from the eighties.
In order to make the appearance more "contemporary" and abstract, the building was given a black coating. This way the building stands out in the rather heterogenic surrounding and enables a maximum effect for striking signing of the company.
The entrance and reception of the building were out-dated, just like the plain meeting rooms. The reception, once located at the end of the hallway, is moved towards the entrance. The toilets and wardrobe, separating the entrance from the reception were removed and placed in the core of the building. With this 'simple' switch we created a spacious entrance and reception for visitors and clients.
The meeting rooms are relocated towards the facade and equipped with contemporary building installation such as air-conditioning.
The existing separation-walls were demolished and replaced by a transparent aluminum partitioning system to encourage the internal interaction within the company and meet the demands of modern work processes. The former reception became a meeting area, where clients can watch the different production phases of the company. Also the aluminum partitioning system serves as a showcase for the packaging, the core business of Volkers. All the main components use neutral colors, with only some specific accents. This was done to get the full attention to the exhibited packaging from every spot in the reception area.
Furthermore the relation between the office and the reception was enhanced.
By entering the reception area, as the core of the company, you can see and feel the dynamics of the workspace. The renovation transformed a dull, traditional cellular office building into a modern, transparent work environment.
