Steady growth led to a need for additional office space at Wilhelm Niemann GmbH's location in Melle. For this reason, it was decided to supplement the existing building with a new office building and to convert the old office space where it made sense to do so, but also to demolish parts of it. This opportunity was also to be used to relocate the company canteen and increase its appeal to the workforce through an attractive design.
The design proposes a composition of varying sizes and heights, consisting of a two-story new building and the converted single-story existing buildings. Parts of the office building constructed in the 1980s were demolished to make way for the new building. The entrance to the complex is centrally located between the new building and the former management offices. From here, the individual departments are within easy reach. Together with the meeting rooms for visitors, the canteen forms the transition between the offices and the production hall. An atrium brings daylight into the interior of the building.
The new building is organized as a three-wing structure, with external cubicle offices and a central zone for subordinate functions such as meetings, kitchenettes, toilets, copying, and archiving. The complete glazing of the corridor walls ensures a light-flooded central zone and creates transparent, communication-promoting interiors with a high quality of stay.
In keeping with the facades of the old building, the facade of the new building was also designed as a perforated facade. Gray trapezoidal sheet metal was chosen for the outer skin, which covers all buildings except for the halls, thus blending the old and new buildings into a homogeneous whole.
