The aim of this design was to close a gap adjacent to a renovated,
landmark-protected machine factory with a high quality office building. The site is in the Hamburg district of Barmbek, directly on the Goldbek Canal. The
connecting building acts as an intermediary between old and new. Here,
a traditional facade with punched windows was used, although the
typical brick was replaced by a cladding of nautical plywood. The
walls of the adjacent bar building have an aluminum facade system and
room-height glazing. Infill panels are also of nautical plywood.
