One could say that Architecture is the practice dedicated to creating a healthy blend of art and science within spatial volumes. It is an art of crafting spaces that solve problems while also creating a reflection of the user’s needs, values and personality. It is this balance between the artist and the business that often goes missing within office spaces. In this milieu, the Envisage HQ presents itself as a unique, eclectic space within a crowd of contemporary architectural volumes.
In any architectural practice, it is likely that one would find two sorts of individuals. One being the creatives or the right-brained people who strive to create eclectic concepts and designs and the left-brained, where the business and its finer details are explored and scrutinized. These aspects are what make the practice a whole, as the non-creative and the creative segments of architecture are two sides of the same coin. Armed with this knowledge of the inner-workings of the practice, the designers crafted a space that optimally imbibes these characteristics. The office has two distinct design styles and sensibilities within a singular space, crafted for ideal functionality and visual impact.
As one gains entry into the Envisage HQ, they’re greeted with a sight that is both modern and chic, with a genial vibe. The entry passageway is a wash of white complemented by a natural wooden texture, which is also continued with the reception desk in a combination of white porcelain exterior with a wooden texture beneath. This gets manifested on the curved wall behind the desk, with recessed lights and metallic pendant light in the same frame, creating a continual effect of juxtaposing the lively, natural and organic with the reserved, modern and inorganic.
The office is crafted into two areas for specific functions: The left side for the business-oriented tasks and the right side for the creatives to work in comfort and peace. The right side houses the architects and designers, which led to the workspace being organic and colourful, with an open layout. There is an openness that is reinforced by the industrial-style ceiling and the abundance of natural light. While the lighting fixtures are minimal in both halves of the office, it is in this part that the lighting has a comfortable, homely mood. There are even hammocks under the workstations to max out the comfort within this space, as well as an informal seating area that doubles as a hub of conversation and laughter during lunchtime, wherein one can even sit cross-legged.
The left side of the office stands in stark contrast with an all-white, formal setting which is apt for meetings and conversations with clients and contractors. Keeping a sense of privacy as a concern, it is further segmented into two spaces, one being a small room for discussions with contractors and allied professionals, and a larger conference room. The conference room has a magnetic wall and projectors, enabling the architects to present their plans with ease. The false ceiling of the conference room also has a minimalistic illustration of Gurgaon’s layout, as a homage to the city and an element that resonates with the work and ethos of Envisage. Another key highlight of this space is the partition that alternates and breaks while tapering down to the entrance. This was done to create a connection and not to split the office completely into two halves, while keeping a distinction in place. This tapered design also serves to increase the illusion of space, as the office is quite compact, manifesting seamlessly from the reception desk and stretches till the last crevice of the conference room.
The Envisage HQ establishes itself as an ideal space to house an architectural practice, with warmth, comfort and care in every detail to house the architects and designers, and a regal, more formal setting to carry out the business of Architecture. The design shows recognition and respect to all the functions of a design studio and manifests as a distinct articulation between conscious professionalism and the subconscious creativity.
