Odintosovo – located at the outskirts of Moscow and currently housing some 250.000 people was founded in the 1960 and to date is lacking a city center. The big void in the middle of the city reserved for a center in the future is currently greatly underutilized.
The design proposes 7 new quarters, each one with its own identity, each one responding to the context found and each one proposing a distinctly different urban setting. A connective tissue of slow movement routes and urban spaces connects all these identities and leads to a center that compares to existing and established centers.
The masterplan allows for a gradual transformation with a minimum of new infrastructure necessary to unlock development potential. An entirely new city quarter will develop around the existing university and will become a new “Ecopolis” – a R&D cluster for sustainable technologies.
