Ocean Village

Ocean Village marina is located to the south-east of Southampton city centre on the River Itchen.
Redevelopment commenced in the 1980s and the existing uses include housing, regional headquarters for a number of large companies, retail uses, restaurants, cafes, a cinema and a 450-berth leisure marina. The marina is also home to the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
As part of a regeneration strategy to intensify uses within Ocean Village, the boatyard site was identified for redevelopment. Located adjacent to the Harbour Lights Cinema, the site has a south-eastern aspect across the marina towards the river.
Delivery Included:
• A new mixed-use residential-led development of 130 one, two and three bedroom apartments and live/work properties clustered around a communal landscaped courtyard.
• Arrangement of buildings to maximise views from apartments across the marina.
• New pedestrian routes to link adjacent uses to the waterfront.
• Active frontages on the east facing elevation with ground floor restaurant and retail uses overlooking a new public space on the quayside.
• A new Innovation Centre to provide accommodation for knowledge based industries that will benefit from links with the adjacent National Oceanography Research Centre.
• Sustainable measures, including rainwater harvesting for communal gardens.
• A contemporary design palette of pastel renders including pistachio, sky blue, pink, aqua marine and white.
