What
if housing did not define itself within rooms?
What if the functions of a living environment could be collapsed into
objects? And what if these objects can
take on whatever form consumer trends dictate?
This study explores the possibility of evolving housing, like almost
every other aspect of the society in which we live, into a marketplace for
commodity exchange. Change out
bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms as quickly as trends
change. Consider how much quicker we buy
new electronics, clothing, cars; with Object Housing, the places where we live
catch up to the way we live. How much
longer can we stand to be confined by traditional housing? The concepts of partitioning spaces and
single function programming have only recently and slowly started to change; this
project imagines a radical progression of the idea of an open floor plan and
hybrid programming. Restricted only by
consumer demand, Object Housing is one way to keep up with our fast-moving,
schizophrenic, evolving society.
