The Jackson park site is close to the museum of science and industry. We chose this site due to its natural context.
We chose a single building type to minimize the impacts to the existing site. The organic design minimizes the energy losses. A big south-east-west façade is able to gain light and energy, the north façade is as small as possible.
The elevated building structure makes space for a natural environment.
All supply engineering is installed underneath level 2 minimizing the technical space inside the building (external supply engineering). To maximize the usable space we suggest slab heating and cooling, activated basement walls a heat pump system. A wind turbine, passive night cooling, and building integrated PV panels complete the energy concept.
A rabbit system connects the confidential and private library with library and administration.
All level 2 areas create natural views and will inspire the visitors.
Together with the chosen timber structures (indoor) visitors always feel like living and learning with mother nature.
8 “islands” in the third level represent each year of Obama’s ministry, study islands in the library are quite areas.
Museum and exhibition area provide enough space even for huge exhibition features.
Stairs, structural engineering and building shape create a logical “circulating network”. The suggested shell skeleton and the designed landscape represent the world wide web (www) and make “communication being seen”.
The library represents “the start”, museum and exhibition “the possible result” of study; a dialogue with nature, technology and visitor.
