Our client’s brief was for a light and airy indoor pool with large opening doors/windows.
Our work included the design of the building, light fittings, pool and environmental services, green energy, acoustics and landscaping. The building is designed to enable the large doors on one wall to retract fully when required. Large rooflights are fully opening and form part of the total environmental control service including water heating, space heating and dehumidification. The acoustic ceiling absorbs the ambient noise and allows for a very pleasant experience. The large metal ‘mobile’ light fittings were designed to throw light onto the coloured baffles to give the effect of sunlight on a gloomy day. The interior decoration was commissioned and painted for the project by Philippa Dow.

The exterior of the building is
designed to fit into the local farm vernacular with dark weatherboarding and
slate roof. Internally it is very
different in character with curved steel portal frames composed of principal
rafters and columns formed by clusters of four curved circular hollow sections.
