The Oak Greene Medical Offices is designed at the intersection of contemporary building practices, historic vine-covered South Pasadena precedents and cutting-edge sustainable design. Adjacent to the Gold Line commuter rail, the project is a modern two-story office building elevated on columns over parking on grade. The dominant feature of the building is that it will be almost entirely covered in foliage-a "green-screen" type mesh encircles the building holding several species of vines which grow from continuous planters at the roof and balcony edge. This building has been designed to be LEED compliant and incorporates the uses of passive solar shading, proximity to mass transit, a water reclamation system and rooftop solar panels.
