SIZE

VoNYC, Inc. - a privately funded non-profit promoting track cycling in New York City - commissioned a design concept and feasibility study for this 3000 seat, 10,200 square meter multi-use building, which combines athletic facilities with retail space, a cafe, a community center, exhibition galleries, public art, locker rooms and pre-function areas.
Designed for a variety of cycling competitions, the Velodrome's 200 meter track surrounds a 2040 square meter infield that can be used for other sports, concerts, film screenings and conferences.
A continuous glass curtain wall surrounds the track and seating areas, defining the space and allowing the public to look in, and sports spectators to gaze out. The wooden track and its structure sit like sculptures within this glass box, while a green roof with solar panels tops the building, designed to achieve LEED certification.
