A lack of amenities in a walkable, formerly live-work community incorporates mixed program: recreation (gym, pool, basketball courts) community facilities (a library, a daycare, and commerce (grocery, cafe, gallery). Shoehorned into a site which bookends a public park, the program requires multiple levels. Three are created, accessed by ramps which offer continuity with the street by enabling horizontal circulation in and through the building. Openings and secondary connections between the layers introduces moments of juxtaposition between programs, creating an internal microcosm of urban life.
