When Nuvera Fuel Cells, a global leader in the development and advancement of multi-fuel processing and fuel cell technology, acquired 110,684 sf of space in a former light manufacturing warehouse, they asked Margulies Perruzzi Architects to assist with the programming, designing and development of their new space at 129 Concord Road in Billerica, Mass.
Project tasks included 40,000 sf of office space, a 20,000 sf laboratory, 19,000 sf of manufacturing space and 20,000 sf for a training center, café, gym, shipping/receiving area, mechanical room, lobby/museum, and common areas.
The lab designs addressed Nuvera’s need to manage compressed gases (natural gas, hydrogen, nitrogen, and calibration gases), cooling requirements (chilled water loop), exhaust, DI/RO water supply, waste water (non-hazardous) removal and reformer exhaust facilities.
