If life is understood as a movement at a different pace, then the old age is symbolised by kind of a slowdown in movement – a gradual calm-down. The time feels longer. A house becomes a directional movement which is the leitmotif of each of its parts. A house is not a cube, it consists of elements dominated by one of the three dimensions – length.
The shape of the house is a result of two forces acting upon the mass – “tensile force” in the east-west direction and “pressure force” in the north-south direction. These two forces are a metaphor for the concept of the house, which is the binarity in every respect: two directions of movement, two types of life, two types of vista or two types of neighbours. On one hand, this is about a visual, impalpable relation with the city through the upper floors and orientation of the wings of accommodation units and, on the other, this is a physical and real interrelationship and the relationship with close neighbourhood through low volumes that are intrusively opened in the east-west direction.
An extended form of the entire formative space is also applied to the facades. Lines of extended terraces spread across the floors in a dynamic sequence, both horizontally, and vertically as well as in its third dimension – by pulling into the volume. In line with an opposite direction of the orientation of lower and higher volumes, the side and longitudinal facades each retain their recognisability and their own story.
