In Greenland, KHR is building a new school - "school on the plain". The school is located in the middle of Nuuk city and on the edge of the "Great Plain". The school creates a unique connection to the landscape, but at the same time becomes an integral part of the city, opening up to active urban spaces and functions such as sports facilities, auditorium, and heart space.
The school has a capacity of 1200 pupils in 5 tracks and also has a day-care center with room for 120 kindergarten and nursery children.
Nuuk school will tell the story of the child in the center of the building whilst creating a city with space for people. Greenland's history of nature plays an important role - both as condition for life, but it is also a premise for the way we build in an Arctic climate where materials must withstand wind and weather. An important priority is indoor climate, daylight and beautiful spaces where people can live and thrive.
