Monterrey, Mexico

YEAR
2013
SIZE
100,000 sqft - 300,000 sqft
The main gymnasium of the state is Gimnasio Nuevo León Unido, besides it’s the home to the professional basketball team Fuerza Regia.
It is located in an area that adjoins the Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey, and is part of all sports facilities state’s largest high performance. The strategic location allows it to share parking with the Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey and other sports facilities as well. It is multifunctional for various indoor sports and for mass events.
It has a large plaza to the front that integrates a covered porch, an esplanade and an outdoor living area.
The main elements of the building are the main gymnasium with capacity for 4,100 spectators and an auxiliary gym with capacity for another 900. The retractable seats of both gyms allows the day to day use in a configuration of 5 practice courts which may be for basketball or volleyball.

Inside, also for budget limitations, it was used the same structure, air conditioning facilities and the retractable seats design as composition elements to achieve a dramatic space.
The gym is designed to be operated with air conditioning in mass events and natural ventilation in normal practice. The walls and ceilings have integrated high-efficiency insulation and the climate control is highly efficient.
To sum up, a dignified state gym where interesting architecture is achieved with a limited budg
