Visual transparency and capturing daylight define the central design concept for a modern, minimalist space designed for coworking. Looking out to the historic Presidio of San Francisco, the principal design goal of the open and flexible workplace centers around views to the outdoors and balancing a modern, contemporary environment with casual, yet curated, materials and finishes. The new space serves as an environment where users can foster new ideas and socialize.
The reception area is emphasized with walls, understated reception desk, and unfinished raised floors all in a dark charcoal color that transition to a bright flexible workspace with clear views to the Golden Gate Bridge. Elsewhere, a muted color palette for finishes - natural concrete ceilings and columns and frameless glass storefronts support a modern design language that filters through the space. At the epicenter of the space is a lounge area featuring rich colors and patterns applied to furniture pieces that draw inspiration from nature. Anchoring the space is the café designed to support interaction and spontaneous meetings around a large island and a communal counter-height table. The freestanding walls throughout the office partition and define the various spaces and were purposely designed with foot-high space under the ceiling to allow light to flow uninterrupted throughout the office.
Despite an understated palette, the function of the office is fully activated giving workplace choice to the various users. The activity-based program is designed with spaces that support different ways of working. Varying levels of privacy are addressed from single occupancy phone rooms to larger conference rooms, to a lounge type meeting room for more casual engagements. Communal tables thought out the space allow for community meeting opportunities, while workspaces located near the daylit window line support user wellbeing.
