Metafizika designed this project located in a serene park in Moscow for a café chain Narton which specialty is traditional cuisine from Caucasus. The business's name was originated from an ancient legend about a hero named Nart, and the brand’s mythology was built around it. Thus for our client it was very important to reflect this rich narrative in the design as well as combine it with modern tendencies in architecture. For us it became an interesting case and a challenge, of cause.
Designing this pavilion we focused on the surroundings, the idea was to embed the building within the park to preserve the harmony of the place. So we used large glass facades, wooden structures of a natural color and mirror plates that tremble in the wind and make the whole building look lighter. These mirror plates also refer to the armor of Nart, the mythological hero.
Engaging the narrative into our design further, we turned to the concept of traditional Caucasian hospitality by installing big oak table. The oval table allows guests sit together but due to its size everyone has their own private space. This wooden table seen from the outside through the large glass walls ties the exterior and the interior together. Working on the interior our designer decided to center around the view and don't overload the space with the elaborate decor. We used white lamps of a plain shapes to split the rhythm of wooden panels on the ceiling and soften the overall impression of the space.
"Dissolving" into the park environment, this pavilion became one of the most often-photographed spots among locals.
