Corvus Design provided interpretive design services for the development of extensive signage for Northwood Park. With a focus on people’s connections to wetlands, the signage is intended to educate on the wide array of services that wetlands offer to us, and the important role it plays as habitat. The design intent is to provide a richness of information that coincides with elementary school curriculum, informs a wide range of users, and will tie into the potential development of a ‘wetland workbook’ for the site.
Another important component was our collaboration with the local Center for the Blind. The panels were developed to provide high contrast to ensure a broad range of the visually challenged could read and interpret the signs, tactile aspects were added to reinforce the messages and clue people in to where text was located, and the panels used a matte finish to reduce glare. Each of the panels also has a visible code and braille that will be used to indicate to users which audio track is paired to each sign. We are in the process of developing online content for the signs to provide these audio tracks in an easily accessed manner.
