In 2006, CallisonRTKL was commissioned to create a hospital master plan for Central DuPage Hospital. This portion of the project is a continuation of its implementation and provides more space to serve the community. The hospital was already well known for prowess in surgery and interventional procedures, but in order to compete for patients in the future, the hospital had to reinvent the patient experience from admission through discharge. The design challenge was more than just mimicking the interior design of a hotel; it required a full understanding of the patient process and flow, nursing patterns and ways to leverage technology in the delivery of care.
