Studiodare Architects has completed designs for the two new underground stations and mid-line ventilation shafts for the extension of the Northern Line to Battersea. These have been submitted for approval to the Secretary of State for Transport. This submission builds on Studiodare’s role as lead architect in the project, which began with the original Feasibility Study in 2008.
A new terminus station at the edge of the Battersea Power Station will serve the new masterplan and also the wider area. Internally, public space is maximised with platforms accessed through an enormous double height concourse. In contrast to many existing stations, large high-level rooflights exploit the opportunity for natural light.
The Northern Line Extension will provide a vital public transport link for the area and is fundamental to the increased demand from planned developments in the ‘Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area’: 195 hectares of former industrial land between Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge.
