“The positive pedestrian experience in Copenhagen ends abruptly at the edges of the city center! Several vital links are missing in the pedestrian traffic system as a whole.”This is a quote from Jan Gehl, Danish architect and urban designer, regarding the state of the ‘fringe’ of Copenhagen’s city center. The site for the global climate change conference in 2010 is to be situated in just such an area that Gehl refers to. In an effort to promote social sustainability, we propose an urban intervention along Norre Voldgade to call attention to this issue and improve the pedestrian experience of the inner city to an even greater degree.
