The brief asked that the existing 1960’s dwelling was extended to the maximum allowable size governed by the New Forest National Park's planning policy and reconfigured to take advantage of the potential distant views to the Solent and Isle of Wight beyond from the upper floor accommodation.
The alterations provide a re-modelled hall, living and dining spaces and an extension to the kitchen and playroom to the ground floor. The first floor is extended to accommodate a re-modelled family bathroom with additional master bedroom, en-suite and adjoining sun terrace. The proposals include thermal performance upgrades to all wall, floor, roof and window components. Windows have been replaced with new double glazed timber and aluminum composites and all external walls clad with timber shingles with additional insulation behind the rain screen. The timber shingles were proposed so that a homogenous form would be revealed once the extension to the dwelling was completed.
