The Rund Tower is located in the historic district of Copenhagen. The ramp up the tower’s spire, used in the Middle Ages as an indoor chariot race, leads to a main exhibition hall for young Scandinavian designers. The focus of the exhibition is the evolution of classic Nordic knitting patterns into modern design and techniques. The pattern developed through a standard origami fold which I created as a modular template. I then multiplied and experimented creating a unique geometric spiral, incorporating the existing quirkiness of the tower itself. The installation weaves through the existing columns and out the window and doors, curling around the tower and down. The repetition found within the art of knitting, its patterns, tucks and its folds were used as inspiration for a thread which distorts the details at a much larger scale.
