A tall commercial building to house Offices and a Diagnostic Centre to be designed on a relatively small plot of about 500 sq yards with total construction area of about 16,250 sq. ft., achieving optimum space utilization was a design challenge to efficiently plan the floor. With an unusual shape of the plot, the challenge was even bigger. Taking the shape of the plot to utilize every possible corner, the resultant design of the building floor effectively proved the feature by shrinking the circulation area on each floor to 17% and increasing the usable area with service area to 83%, which, for such commercially oriented building is a great achievement.
A commercial space needs much flexibility in planning the space with services in today’s scenario for which the skewed shape of building as inherited from the plot shape was negotiated and resolved in the service block thereby giving a comparatively large hall of size approx. 61 ft. x 25 ft. (1540 sq. ft.) which is column-free. This relevant feature was most required and achieved to plan the interior as desired.
Constructed in form finished concrete, the bold structure stands out in an otherwise busy part of the old city of Surat where most of the buildings are G+2 or 3 high. This Concrete makes the building a focal point in the busy surrounding.
