DEK Studio was tasked with providing a revamped design for the interior core and shell elements of a multistory medical complex about to start construction. Our first move was to punch a large double height space into the main entrance lobby, and then encircle it with a hanging garden of native and low maintenance greenery. Materials generally reserved for Class A office space were then layered underneath and around to provide an atmosphere of comfort and sophistication for patients/clients upon arrival. Advanced technology features include interactive touchscreens as wayfinding devices, while custom furniture and millwork were specifically designed to integrate with the existing structural elements and new architecture alike. New lighting elements are either indirect and hidden from view, or raised up and out of the direct line of sight to minimize the strain and shock to patients on arrival who may be under physical duress.
