Located in the hustle and bustle of New Delhi, this splendid residence designed by Chromed Design Studio serves the purpose of an office cum residential space for a lawyer. With this masterful spectacle, Chromed Design Studio steps up the game of the residential design sector.
The notion behind this magnificent project was for the residence to become a hybrid of a residence and a workspace. and the clients second home where he could come in to stay with his family now and then. The client has a penchant for elegant art and art forms. He chose to invest in chic art and artifacts that enhance the aura of the house, ensuring that it transcends to another plane of existence. Also, he wanted a place in Delhi where he could entertain guests and
rejuvenate with friends and family.
The client desired a highly private yet well-ventilated living space. A contemporary minimalistic and frugal design approach was adopted by the design team as the brief called for a humble abode that wasn’t ostentatious or gaudy. With clean lines and a
statement design vocabulary incorporating double-height volumes and enormous atriums, this house is strikingly unique and highly innovative in nature. Each opening of the dwelling is designed such that it overlooks Humayun's Tomb. This house is a study in varying perspectives as the principal architect toyed around with transforming scale throughout. The notion was to create a unique language and an all-new narrative of scale provided. There is a myriad of perspectives and scales - from a closed driveway when moving into the double-height wall to the horizontally spaced living room, the design ensures that the inhabitants never feel tedious.
In order to accommodate extreme privacy, the facade was screened throughout with
wooden louvers such that the view would be from inside-out. With an interesting mosaic
art mural made by Mini Mason, the facet gave the house a unique signature characteristic making it a landmark building for the vicinity.
Starting from the ground floor, there is an office area that is awash in hues of blue. The colour dominates the space where an orange canvas breaks the monotony of the palette. It is a quintessential place to study, have an informal meeting, or a serious business conversation.
However, the highlight comes in the form of a long and elegant marble table that can sit up to eight people. As the client is a lawyer, an expansive and comprehensive bookcase is provided in the room with ample storage space. The highlight of this room are the colour-coded spines of the law books that match the navy blue walls.
Moving onto the first floor, a conference room has been set up abandoning the rules of minimalism while adapting to a modern-contemporary aesthetic. Colours have been used extensively, with a red print installed above a desk, and the spines of the books are bright, enhancing the vibe of the room. On the same floor, a professional office has been set up, where the client can hold the consultations. A unifying element of storage space can be seen in all these rooms - the shelves and drawers are the bespoke solution to all the qualms about having nowhere to place extensive case histories, affidavits, or textbooks. The lighting is minimal but sufficient as it is bolstered by plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows.
On the second floor, the balcony is treated as a separate room, with a glass partition.
Adorned with hardwood floors, wicker furniture, and a handful of planters, this balcony abides by a sense of warmth with the perfect view of the monument- Humayun’s Tomb. A simple and
contemporary bedroom with touches of minimalistic decor and warm ambient lighting gives this bedroom a welcoming vibe. Following the trail, a second bedroom on the same floor is designed on similar principles. Soft hues of muted greys and pastel greens are used as primary colours
here. The tufted headboard, brassy ceiling fan, and a delicate golden hanging light seem to polish the room with the essentials. However, to break the monotony, a piece of quirky artwork has been hung on one of the walls here.
Moving to the third floor, the dining table is the place where the family comes together for meals and conversations to bond. Again, a blue colour palette has been used here to lend a graceful aura to the space. To accompany this cobalt-themed dining room, a blue-toned living room is constructed to be fit for royalty. Asymmetric coffee tables of unequal heights add a touch of whimsicalness to the room, and the azure upholstery makes the room look more refined. A mirrored ceiling with a geometric chandelier and floor-to-ceiling windows hone in on the idea of being wide-open.
Traversing to other parts of the residence, the conservatory on the terrace is a beautiful work of art. The terrace constitutes a nonchalant solarium with breeziness taking precedence as there are floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminated with stunning warm lighted chandeliers. The sitting area is cozy yet expansive. As the living room opens into a balcony, it allows for plenty of air to
flow through the area. Minute details in the form of rustic wooden side tables and checkered pillow cases make the room look like it’s straight out of a fairytale. With expansive balconies that prove to be highly functional, the inhabitants gather a semblance of privacy while living in
an open plan concept.
A bold statement has been made in this residence, with the merging of modern, contemporary, and minimalist styles, focusing on the functional regime for the ease of the residents.
