The project is the renovation of a small loft in Rome which is spread over 3 levels. Originally, the structure was connected by a long spiral staircase and the client had the need to reduce the steps inconvenient to have a connection more linear and comfortable.
The core of the project is the new stair, to realize we have made a speech on the floor with the opening of a new vacuum smoother. The design of the ladder has been made trying to use as little space as possible and at the same time derive the unused spaces of the staircase.
The idea stems from the interpretation of optical illusions of MC Escher representing stairs in a surreal way where the floor intersects the ceiling and vice versa.
This perception of the inversion is given by the repetition of the steps made with the same material (oak wood) that appear to turn over, after the corner and flip the horizon.
The whole staircase was made of wood so valuable space in each serving, under the stairs and on the walls with niches carved on the structure of wood panels.
The old spiral staircase, it also oak, has been reassembled to connect the first floor with the second floor and leans on the new steel and glass that allows light to filter through.
The scale illumination is completely indirect. Light lines are intersected by polycarbonate that diffuses light
The project is spectacular and at the same time makes it more cozy living area by wrapping the entire space becoming library also continuing lines and repeating the materials used.
The result is a functional and comfortable despite the small size and is embellished with a unique custom built.
