The building was to be the Mumbai residence for the chairman of the UB group. It was a remodelling and reconstruction job ,involving two existing townhouses in the Petit Complex on Napean Sea Road. The final design saw the townhouses almost demolished and a brand-new construction, except for the building lines and some external walls.
The requirements were a ground floor plus two upper storeys , and a basement to be used as a wine cellar. The ground floor had the living, dining, and kitchen spaces as well as a somewhat squashed in swimming pool-15ft by 50 ft- a structural feat since it had to be fitted into a narrow space between two existing walls.
