The quadrennial 2010 Federation of International Basketball Association World Championship was held from August 28th to September 12th, 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey.Urbantainer was invited to design the special NIKE PLATFORM PROJECT and was in charge of directing the exhibition as part of NIKE PLATFORM PAVILLION organized by NIKE and ZERO AGENCY from September 1st to September 3rd, 2010.With the concept of ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ we designed a platform/exhibition space using cranes and container boxes in a defunct shipyard.The vigorous energy of ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ concept was in unison with as well as finely complimented the overall NIKE PLATFORM concept throughout the three days event.Divided into three main sections of ART TENT, MAIN HALL and LOUNGE, they gave platform and space for variety of events such as basketball competition, seminars, exhibitions, live graffiti performances, and parties providing a wide arrange of cultural contents.29 container boxes became a huge canvas for graffiti artists and 3 container boxes converted into ART TENT showcased collaboration project on NIKE AIR FORCE 1 with various artists.Colors chosen in accordance with ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ concept were orange, yellow and black which also happens to be NIKE’s signature colors and we converted wood pallets, concrete blocks, construction scaffolds and safety fences to interior products and furnitures.
