The Nidus
joint building venture comprises an active group of 62 inhabitants who joined forces
to form and affect their new home and neighborhood. The building’s "pulsating"
façade reflects both the character of the particular site as well as its
inhabitants.
The facade
responds to the building’s internal structure by using different variations of
the same proportioned square window. The openings generated depend on type and
size of the apartments. The largest windows, which are organized as a quartet, emphasize
the duplex apartments in the facade.
The result
is a minimalist design that pulsates over the whole facade. The building is cladded
with a dark, coarse brick linking it with the neighbouring 19th
century warehouses from the “Speicherstadt”.
The layout
is open-plan and designed flexibly for use by single person households as well
as families. The ground floor with ceilings of up to five meters includes
shops, studios and showrooms.
The NIDUS residential
building has been certified with the "HafenCity Gold Environmental
Label".
