A long-time client of MWA’s, Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA), required suitable facilities to support their housing development work. For over thirty years, NHA operated their non-profit out of three single-family houses, but it was time for a change.
MWA worked with NHA to develop a master plan for a campus that provides a development and management office, a family shelter, affordable housing apartments, and resident amenities. The family shelter is at the heart of the campus, was developed in partnership with shelter management, and was guided by the principles of trauma-informed design. The shelter provides a temporary home for some of the community’s most vulnerable within a protected environment and provides access to the support needed to rebuild their lives.
The entire campus exceeded its goals for sustainability; the development achieved Earth Advantage Platinum, and NHA’s offices are Net-Zero.
