It is becoming more common to use passive design techniques to increase the comfort of buildings while reducing environmental costs. By increasing the sustainability of buildings, we can also increase the sustainability of towns, cities, and overall human impact on the environment—a critical issue our society needs to address. We launched the “Next Generation Wooden Housing Complex” project to think about sustainable architecture for the next generation based on a broadly defined idea – “passive design”. Integration of passive design allows for the reinvention of architectural elements and can create a truly comfortable environment that protects the environment and allows us to experience nature more directly. We aim to create designs that live up to this new standard.
