This space was designed for a New York based multi-strategy hedge fund. The layout of the facilities and the amenities provided are intended to support the comfort of the traders. An elegant reception area opens directly off the elevator lobby and forms the central hub of the office suite. A rich, textural palette of materials, introduced here, creates an environment that is both sophisticated and welcoming and sets the tone for the remainder of the floor. White granite pavers and white polyester-lacquered panels contrast with zebrawood paneling at the elevator lobby wall, the etched glass partitions leading to the general office area and stainless steel mesh column covers. The 60-person trading floor occupies the entire north end of the floor taking advantage of natural daylight along three sides of the window wall. While the general office space has an 8’-6” ceiling height, that dimension is somewhat diminished in the trading area which sits on a 4” raised floor. The designers resolved the low floor to ceiling height by modulating the acoustic ceiling over the trading desks to add interest and to create the illusion of a higher ceiling, with cove lighting and pendant fixtures over the trading desks. The rich dark walnut trading desks, neutral carpeting and clean architectural details create a warm, contemporary environment for the high-energy nature of the trading environment. Because the building core is located along the eastern side of the building, the remainder of the floor provides flexible space to accommodate the tenant’s needs. Through the judicious use of glass partitions at interior conference rooms, and by placing circulation corridors along the window wall in the administrative areas, the designers allowed natural daylight to penetrate into all areas of the space. Mossy green-colored Constantine carpet in four distinct patterns is carefully arranged throughout the general office to form a neutral background. Accent walls of orange fabric panels or green encaustic paint add interest in conference rooms and administration areas and contrast with the richly textured neutral fabric panels along the circulation corridor and the neutral paint in the general office space. Custom-designed workstations in dark walnut with glass dividing partitions flank each side of a quadrant of small glass-enclosed offices for the use of traders. One very special feature is a large recreation center which includes a kitchen, café, lounge seating and a ping pong table, provided to help the traders unwind from the pressures of their job.
