New Regionalism: Herring Creek Farm offers a clean aesthetic of a “modern” house superimposed on the form of a traditional New England homestead.
This work also defines the site development with its clean infinity edge pool and fields that define the overall character and theme of the site development. The farm to ocean site is reinforced with the series of courtyard spaces parti of the house. These outdoor living rooms celebrate the unique site and create wonderfully inviting indoor/outdoor spaces for family and guests to enjoy.
The design concept of building a new house within the ruins of a former stone fireplaced house is given credence by the use of oversized and scaled stone chimneys that act as bookends to the various wings of the house.
The house's transition from a rural traditional property of multiple pieces into a more modern, singular, denser structure speaks well to its sense of "implied history." Such a transition included the incorporation of various geometrical elements into a more modern design. The construction process also speaks to this design concept as the new house was built within the vestiges of a former farmhouse.
