ADP is working on a major tenant-led commercial office development in the North of England. Two options are under consideration: one option involves a new entrance and landmark frontage building to accompany a complete refurbishment of the existing facility, while the second is a wholesale replacement of the existing building with a new office complex. The proposals incorporate a double-skin south facing façade in which two layers of glazing provide acoustic insulation from the approach road, solar shading to avoid over-heating and glare to the occupants, and heat recovery at the top of the double skin void from warm air rising through the façade. This will be integrated with using the thermal mass of the structure of the building to absorb heat from occupants during the day, discharged at night as the structural floor is cooled by passing cold night air across the soffit. Internally, the design represents current trends in workplace design with flexible floorplates providing open plan workspaces, combined with cellular meeting spaces. Social areas have been incorporated for coffee, breakout, and general informal meeting spaces.
