We hope to preserve the historical heritage of the old Lanmen Village as much as possible and transform it into a rural cultural and tourism complex. The goal is to provide accommodation and hospitality for tourists and create an exemplar that showcases the future rural lifestyle.
We divided the land into four parts. The core part is the remaining village buildings that mainly occupy the high tableland of the old village, which were designed to be living spaces with a relatively quiet environment. Various types of accommodation options are available, ranging from single rooms to suites with an independent courtyard. Additionally, there are public service areas, including a reception cafe and a multifunctional hall that can provide simple meals and host small-scale events. The vegetable garden on the east side of the accommodation area has been preserved as a site for future agricultural experiences. The riverbank and large lawn on the north side become a natural activity field, which is surrounded by mountains and shielded by dense bamboo, ensuring that any noisy activities do not interfere with the peaceful living experience in the accommodation area. The last part is a stream that encompasses the entire tableland. We have arranged an elevated walkway made of steel mesh on top of the stream, and created several waterfront platforms in combination with the open water pool in the middle area, providing a great place for families and parents with children to get close to nature and have fun.
We strived to preserve the existing architectural structures as they were and to showcase the old walls in both indoor and outdoor spaces through various approaches. For the newly built addition, we have incorporated old materials as well as energy-saving new materials, such as photovoltaic tiles on the roof for energy savings in use.
